During a recent renovation of one of the oldest buildings in Nyboder, craftsmen made a surprising discovery: a hidden box with old letters. They turned out to be a collection of messages passed down through the generations – from the time of Christian IV to our own. The letters contain secret codes, stories and clues that point to Nyboder's hidden stories.

To ensure that the mysteries of the letters are not lost, they have now been handed over to you.

By solving the riddles and following the clues in the found letters, your mission is not only to collect points, but also to delve into what makes Nyboder worth preserving - to recognize its importance for our shared history and cherish it as a source of inspiration for future generations.

These letters hide secret codes and clues that are deeply rooted in Nyboder's history – a legacy that is still closely connected to the Danish Armed Forces, which owns the buildings to this day.
By following the trail of the letters, you must explore Nyboder's streets, find hidden details and solve puzzles that reveal the place's unique history.

POINT SYSTEM:
You collect points during the game.
You get +1000 points for each puzzle you find the answer to.
-100 points for each wrong answer.

(HINTs can make the game more fun and help along the way)

There are 3 HINTs for each riddle, after which it says "Get answer" on the button.

Please remember: You must enter the answer yourself, also when you select "Get answer" - then click "Check answer".

Are you ready to get started?

In the first letter, you find what looks like a riddle and a strange series of numbers.

Can you find the Danish word hidden in the 7 numbers?

A Hint costs 200 points.

Look behind the statute. The writing on the plaque is raised.

You are now standing at one of the iconic viewpoints in Nyboder.

Here you can see a large section of the old yellow barracks that are now protected, due to their historical significance.

If you compare the map of Nyboder from 1793 with a modern map on your phone, you will see that many streets still have the same name as back then, and that the street plan has remained mostly unchanged since that time.

Vildandegade, however, is one of the streets whose name has been changed. Look at the map from 1793.

What was Vildandegade called in 1793?

Note: In old Danish we used to write the letter “å” as “aa” and the word for street is “gade”

A Hint costs 200 points.

Take a closer look at the names of the streets surrounding Vildandegade and compare with the map

It is now time to open the second envelope.

... but the wind has blown all the letters to the floor and you don't know in which order the letters should be opened.

You will now get help via this diagram. - Each letter has a value from 1-6. The sum of each of the vertical and horizontal rows is outside the square.

- You already know which letter has the value 1. (The first envelope you opened)

What series of numbers do you arrive at?

A Hint costs 200 points.

Start with the row with 2 of the first envelope

You return your attention to the stack of letters. The next one is a postcard addressed to a secret Vildandegade house number – and to make matters more confusing, the postcard is written in code!

However, when you moved the stack of letters, a scrap of paper slipped out. The markings look familiar.
Decipher the message and solve the riddle to discover the secret house number. Write the number below and proceed to this address.

The box that is closed on all 4 sides and has 1 dot in the middle = N

You are now standing on Krokodillegade with a view down the street.

Take a good look around and maybe you will spot something in a wall that was not originally there. It was picked up after the bombardment in 1807 and put in the wall as a decoration.

As you can see, Nyboder has been through a lot over the years.

You’ve found a burnt scrap of paper in the pile of letters - perhaps it is from the time of the bombardment?

Solve the equation to discover which direction to head in next.

Have you seen it from all angles?

You are now standing in front of the monument to Admiral Edouard Suenson, who led the Danish forces in the naval battle at Heligoland on 9 May, 1864.

On the back of an old postcard, you find a picture of the monument taken around the year 1910.

The monument stands where it was placed on May 9, 1889. Many statues and monuments – due to their size and weight – stand in their original location. What’s special about this monument is that the surrounding buildings are protected, so even though the city has developed and changed around it, the Nyboder houses are still the same – and you get to enjoy a view that is almost identical to what it was over 100 years ago.

Now take a closer look at the statue and all its details.

Solve the equation correctly, to find out where you must go next.

A Hint costs 200 points.

Do you need a Hint?

There are 3 daggers on each side of each bow of the ship

You are now standing at the end of Hjertensfrydsgade - at Nyboder Plads.
Look carefully at the map.

When you look at the map from 1793 and compare it with the street view today, you will see that Hjertensfrydsgade has been around for a long time - but today Kronprinsessegade runs through at the end of the street.

Kronprinsessegade (Crown Princess Street) was laid out in 1795 after the great fire in Copenhagen on the initiative of King Frederik VI (though at the time, he was only the Crown Prince). He had it named after his wife, Crown Princess Marie Sophie Frederikke (1767-1852). The part of Kronprinsessegade, which runs through Krokodillegade and divides Hjertensfrydsgade and Elsdyrsgade today, was not added until the second half of the 19th century, in an attempt to create a better connection up to Østervoldgade.

You open another letter from the pile - it contains some cryptic drawings. This puzzle can only be solved by walking around on Hjertensfrydsgade.

All the figures consist of three dots and one heart, but which of the figures is correct?

When you solve this, you will discover another – very small – secret hidden in Nyboder.

Which of the figures is correct - Is it A, B, C or D?

A Hint cost 200 point.

Do you need a Hint?

There is a HINT on the picture itself - this is where you have to look closer - just in reality...

The next letter contains a very cryptic message of seemingly random letters.

It looks like the sender added some help to crack the code in the form of a chart with 28 letters - 14 at the top and 14 at the bottom - but 7 letters missing...

The 7 missing letters form the code word. Place the code word on the 7 empty fields in the cart and you will be able to reveal the hidden message.

A Hint cost 200 point.

Do you need a Hint?

Combine the 7 floating letters together into a word - and place it in the chart

You are now standing in Saint Paul's Square. Hope you are ready for the last puzzle this round.

From here you can see the last one-storey, existing row of original Nyboder houses. that was built way back in the 1630s - in the time of Christian IV. In fact, they are about 200 years older than St. Paul's Church.

If you look closely at this row of houses, you can see several windows with porcelain dog figurines. Since the 1800s, this has been a common item in the homes of Danish sailors. When the sailor was away at sea, his wife would make the dog look out the window - as if waiting for his return. When the sailor was home, the dog would turn inward instead.

There are many families living in Nyboder today who still have porcelain dogs standing in their windows. Now that you know this, it's hard not to notice them if you subsequently move around this small district.

As you can see, as you have moved around Nyboder, many of the streets have changed names since 1793 as large parts of the district have been renewed. This also makes it very special that there is still so much left that has been preserved and today is protected.

The map from 1793 testifies to the many streets that were then part of Nyboder, which today have other names. However, many of the streets and their names have been preserved.

You have probably noticed that many streets in Nyboder are named after animals, such as Vildandegade (Wild Duck), Krokodillegade (Crocodile), and even fictional animals, such as Einhornsgade (Unicorn).

Today these pictures and artefacts hang on a notice board in Nyboder. They all describe a street name in Nyboder, either a current one or one of those seen on the map from 1793. Among all the animals there is also a strange message - it looks like something you have become familiar with from the first envelope.

Can you solve this puzzle now that you are in the right place?

Which animal is hidden behind the 5 numbers?
